April 3, 2012. First run of "Wish & a Prayer" flags completed for upcoming show. These are intended to be hung outdoors, but could of course be hung indoors. Over time, as the flags deteriorate with the elements, the wind and birds will carry off bits and pieces and spread the wishes and prayers for peace around the world. I think it's a lovely thought, inspired by the Tibetan prayer flags. I'm going to have to make some for my yard as well!

Isn't this wonderful? This is a collaborative project made by weavers all over the country, including me, and assembled by Jill in California. You can easily spot my section -- it's the red one in the lower left corner. There are also bits and pieces of the red weaving cut up and placed elsewhere on the blanket. More info on Jill's Blog. Since I have a prominent spider theme going on around here, both inside and outside, I decided to start the new tapestry by weaving a "spider" from the book, Tapestry 101. Clearly, I need more practice to make this look good, but I'm hoping as the squares fill in around it, it will not look so bad. :-) Three apple green dots on lower left border indicate the month of March; there are 12 dots on the lower right-hand side for the year. Fiber content will vary, as will texture, for this piece. If you look closely, you can see the bulky orange boucle in the border -- it pokes out here and there. My tapestry skills are pretty weak, so I'm focusing on improving them, a little at a time. The weather in Texas is beautiful right now! We've even had some much needed rain! The outdoor weaving projects are calling my name, so much so that I felt compelled to clean and seal the frames outside from winter mold and grime. And since I'm finally ready to continue weaving the directions already started on the fence, I thought I would re-post this entry on "South" from my old blog. "North" will be next in line. Stay tuned! March 16, 2011. Started weaving the four directions on the stock fence surrounding the weaving garden today. "South" is more or less complete. The other three directions are warped in their locations on the fence, but no real progress was made as the mosquitoes (and they are really BIG in Texas) drove me inside. These are relatively small weavings so they don't take hours and hours, and I'm using bits and pieces of yarns leftover from other projects. I knew there was a reason I was saving them! |
